Hunger Mountain is a journal for the arts put out by my grad school, Vermont College of Fine Arts. Every year, Hunger Mountain awards the Katherine Paterson Prize, which is for YA/children’s literature. Katherine Paterson is the Newbery Award-winning author of books like Bridge to Terabithia, Jacob Have I Loved, and The Great Gilly Hopkins, and she also serves on the VCFA Board of Trustees.
And this year, I won! I was delighted and honored to learn that this year’s judge, Kekla Magoon, who is on the faculty of the Writing for Children and Young Adults program (as well as an alum of the program), had selected my story, “Don’t Quote Me” as this year’s grand prize winner. My story is online now if you’d like to read it.
